Museum of Goa by Ritika Ratnawat

Hearing about Goa always plays Dil Chahta Hai theme song in the back of the mind. Friends, fun, Feni and beaches come into mind. We were just roaming and exploring when the catchy pictures of MoG : Museum of Goa roadside caught us.

The best trips are unplanned: This is what happened with us too. Let me take you to MoG and you tell me when will you be visiting :)

MoG celebrates the history of Goa - Its people and culture. It tells you what Goa authentically is: beyond the clubs and cafes. The Museum, founded by Goan artist, Subodh Kerkar, in 2015, seeks to bring art and local history to larger audiences in an attempt to bridge the cultural gap in the country. MOG translates to ‘love’ in Konkani, reason for the name and their belief to build a future of love and empathy.

The museum is full of amazing artworks from different artists including abstract, photography, best out of waste, oil and what not. It takes quite sometime to understand the creativity, so keep a good amount of time for the museum. By the entrance you will see a giant animal made up of iron waste. There are also few small rocks engraved as human faces.

There are plenty of abstract paintings (above : Ganesha) in the little corridor with a small shop in the left with lot of cute stuffs specially themed on the Goan windows and on the right is the ticket counter.

As you enter the main area there is a big space of photography section. The artist has created different shapes with the help of Goan fishermen. The other part of this area is full of ocean rocks, shells and ancient anchors.

Let's go up on the first floor, to my favorite part of the museum, the paintings section. The medium used was oil and the detailing done is outstanding, made them look so realistic, depicting beautiful people of Goa and the culture.

Some other mediums: pen and pencil creating such beautiful illustrations of the old Goa's routine life and the sea-life.

and some daunting one, because art is art! It’s always fun to watch different kinds of art. This place will teach you a different perspective of seeing art in the not-so-normal creativity. An artist puts his thoughts in his artwork - decipher if you can!

At the backside there is a big open space of best out of waste. The picture below has coconut shells with plastic bottles giving such a colorful background. You can get registered and do lil painting session with a cup of coffee from the café, surrounded by the trees.

Overall a great experience and total amusement for an art-lover or not.
