National Museum in Delhi

The National Museum of India located in Delhi is the biggest museum in India and was commissioned in 1946, and opened for visitors in 1949. The museum is maintained by the Ministry of Culture and exhibits an enormous collection of exclusive artifacts. If you have a love for history then you can sneak peek at an extensive collection ranging from prehistoric times to modern creations of art.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Museum in Mumbai

The museum was set up in 1922 to commemorate the Prince’s visit to India. Among the exhibits here are some ancient relics from the Indus Valley Civilization, some magnificent sculptures from the middle age, artwork and miniature paintings, pottery and porcelain ware, and a fine display of ancient Indian weapons of war. The domed structure in which the museum is located is a beautiful blend of Hindu, Islamic, and British architecture and was designed by George Witte.

Government Museum in Chennai

The Government Museum of Chennai also known as the Egmore Museum due to its location in Egmore, is housed in the Pantheon Complex, a beautiful colonial building. This museum showcases one of the most impressive exhibits from south Indian history. This gallery has on display bronze sculptures dating back to the 7th century Pallava times, but some of the best pieces come from the Chola empire from between the 9th and 11th centuries. It also contains some excellent Buddhist relics and coins from ancient south India.

Victoria Memorial in Kolkata

Located in the heart of Kolkata, is the Victoria Memorial. As the name suggests, the museum is dedicated to Queen Victoria and her time here. The monument was actually a palace built for her and after her death, it was converted to a memorial. Flanked by lush green lawns and beautiful fountains and blooming gardens on all sides, the whole compound is a visual treat and one of the gems of the city. Victoria Memorial is the city’s pride and it houses everything which was once associated with Queen Victoria, be it her gorgeous gowns or notebooks or the currency of that time or the uniforms of her guards.

National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi

The National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, is a repository of more than 17000 most significant works of modern and contemporary art in the country. The institution is also committed to promote contemporary Indian art in its various forms. Salar Jung Museum in Hyderabad

The museum was established in 1951 at the palace of Nawab Mir Yousuf Khan, popularly known as Salar Jung III. The museum houses a collection of over 1.1 million artefacts and art pieces, all personally collected by Salar Jung III himself. One of the best collections they have is the Clock Room, a gallery of clocks and timekeeping devices from across the world from historical times. The Quran Collection here is also impressive and antiques from the Mughal period.

Calico Museum of Textiles in Ahmedabad

Named after Sir John Napier, the former Governor General of Madras, the Napier Museum is located in a beautiful Indo-Saracenic structure right in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram.
