"I’m an art student currently in my final year at college and all my clothes are stained with paint!
In April 2017, I went through a personal family crisis which affected my art practice. For several months, I was unable to produce any work that satisfied me, my work didn’t seem to progress and I felt I hit a wall. I had what is called an “artist block”. During this difficult time I remembered what my mother said, “face the problem, don’t run away from it”. This quote inspired me to move forward. I began working on a series of artworks which were inspired by the ‘drama’ that had engulfed my life at the time. The process from ideation to the final artworks was a heavily emotional yet cathartic. Through this experience, I was able to get some closure and I realised the importance of putting emotion into my work.
Artists across all fields (music, theatre, dance, design etc.) encounter hurdles at some point in their practice. However each experience is a lesson. And ultimately, 'face the problem, don’t run away from it!' - @kashin.art
